1That was the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Philistia, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.2The LORD says: Look, waters are rising from the north. They will become a flooding stream and flood the land and everything in it, the city and those who live in it. People will cry out, and every inhabitant of the land will wail.3From the sound of the pounding of the split hooves of his mighty ones, from the rumbling of his chariots, the multitude of his wheels: fathers did not turn to their sons, from slackness of hands.4On the day coming to plunder all Philistia, to cut off from Tyre and from Sidon every helper who remains, because the LORD has plundered Philistia, the remnant of the island of Caphtor.5Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is silenced, remnant of the valley—how long will you cut yourself?6Woe, sword of the LORD, how long until you are quiet? Be gathered up; do not be drawn out. Be calm—no more blood!7How can you be quiet when the LORD has commanded it to strike Ashkelon and the coast of the sea? There he has appointed it.
